AhlulBayt News Agency: Forces of Syria’s ruling administration, led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have reportedly abducted Talal Naji, a senior official of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), in Damascus.
Naji, who serves as the secretary-general of the PFLP’s General Command, was taken by HTS forces as he left his residence in the Mazzeh neighborhood on Saturday, according to various resistance media outlets.
The 79-year-old, known for his support of Syria’s former government and its anti-Israeli stance, was reportedly abducted shortly after departing his home, accompanied by a driver and two guards.
A Palestinian official, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the situation, stated that the abduction occurred without prior warning. Syrian authorities later questioned the two unarmed guards for nearly an hour but did not detain them.
An official from Syria’s HTS-led administration, also speaking anonymously, confirmed that Naji was taken for questioning but did not provide further details, citing restrictions on public statements.
This incident follows previous reports of the abduction of key officials from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance group in Syria. The Islamic Jihad had previously supported Syria’s former government in its opposition to Israeli occupation and aggression against Palestinians and Syria.
HTS, which once fought fiercely against the government of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, took control of the country last year amid intensified Israeli airstrikes targeting civilian and military infrastructure.
HTS leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani later stated that his group does not seek conflict with Israel.
HTS’ actions against Palestinian factions come as these groups continue their resistance against Israeli aggression, including ongoing attacks on Syria.
Most recently, the PFLP condemned the Israeli strikes and criticized Tel Aviv’s justification for the assaults, calling it hypocritical. The group accused Israel of falsely claiming to protect minorities while consistently violating Palestinian rights.
